What Do We Know About Netflix’s Never Have I Ever Season 3
Netflix released the hit ten-episode comedy series Never Have I Ever, developed by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, on April 27th, 2020. The series follows a first-generation Indian-American teen, Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) in her quest for popularity and the acceptance of her peers.
The second season saw Devi’s life and the lives of her friends become even further entwined as Devi’s mother Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan) has to come to terms with the return of her estranged husband Kamal (Sendhil Ramamurthy). The season finale, much like the first, left us with an emotional cliffhanger that begs for a resolution in season three.
So let’s dive into what we know about Never Have I Ever’s upcoming third season.
Who’s Returning For Season 3?
It’s already been confirmed that the core cast of Never Have I Ever will be returning for the show’s third season. That means we’ll see our favorites like Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi, Poorna Jagannathan as her mother Nalini, Richa Moorjani as Devi’s best friend Kamala, Lee Rodriguez as Fabiola, and Jaren Lewison as Ben.
The show’s star-studded lineup will also include Utkarsh Ambudkar as Paxton, Ramneek Dhaliwal as Devi’s cousin Kush and an exciting return from Karan Soni as the lovable and nerdy Fabian.
When Will Season 3 Air?
Unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t shared a release date for the upcoming season of Never Have I Ever yet. No official announcement has been made concerning either the development of or the production timeline for this series. We can only look forward to any announcement Netflix might make.
Speculations
It’s been speculated that season three might be released in late 2022 or early 2023. These conjectures appeared to have been based on the fact it took a total of 20 months for season one and two to be released, with season one premiering in April 2020 and season two in July 2021.
What Will Season 3 Be About?
The show’s finale left us with a few cliffhangers that will likely be resolved in season three. In the finale, we saw Devi’s mother Nalini confront her estranged husband and his mistress and ending up walking out on them. After terminating their relationship, she confessed to Devi that she still loves him and wants to give their relationship a second chance.
It’ll be interesting to see how Nalini and Kamal’s relationship will evolve and the effect it will have on Devi, considering their divorce and following estrangement was a huge part of Devi’s story.
We also saw Devi and Paxton, her American friend, confess their feelings for each other in the finale, and witnesses the two lock lips for the first time. This might mean romantic drama for Devi and Paxton’s relationship, considering both of them maintain a string of other crushes and the possibility of one or both of them feeling betrayed by their admissions.
Finally, we saw the season end with Devi’s cousin Kush (Ram Neek Dhaliwal) proposing to Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), who had already turned him down once before. We’re sure to see them struggle through this conflict, as well as the potential reactions of Devi and their friends to the situation.
What to Expect in Season 3?
We can safely expect that season three will pick up right where season two left off, and bring its viewers the same comedic and diverse show we’ve come to know and love. We can also hope to see the characters continue to grow and develop, in the way that only Kaling and Fisher’s world-building can provide.
Since season two ended on an emotional cliffhanger, we can expect the series to provide us clear resolution and closure to the cliffhangers. As the series has already expertly balanced the drama of teenage angst with the sweetness of familial love – we anticipate the same with season three.
We can also expect more of Fisher’s stylish commercial-style motifs, with her energetic direction bringing the show to life.
We look forward to the new season of Never Have I Ever, with its swoon-worthy romance, high school angst, and loveable family mending. Netflix has yet to confirm any news about a season three, but fans everywhere will be waiting in anticipation for the spinoff season.
